- Destination Polo is fortunate to have many horses in our string that are quiet enough to fox hunt and have the right attitude to be used in second and third field. Fox hunting is one of the most exhilarating and noble sports that you can do on horseback in the Virginia countryside. It is a passport to see the countryside from the inside out, allowing you access to places you'd never see from the road in a time honored Virginia tradition.
- We are proud to be a supporter and a member of Piedmont Hunt, the oldest fox hunt in the USA. We are fortunate that the land surrounding Phipps Field is not only in a conservation easement with the Virginia Outdoors Foundation but is also in Piedmont Hunt territory. It is the oldest recognized fox hunt in the United States being founded in 1840.
- Horses used in the fox hunting field have to be quiet enough to carry the rider no matter the skill level yet be nimble enough to keep up with the hounds for a couple hours and also be able to pop over small logs and different obstacles in the terrain. The majority of horses that come from Mexico are very well broke and have a vast history with cross country travel and they have a multitude of real life experience with crowds of horses, people, dogs, and loud noises that make them predisposed at being great in the hunt field.
- Our methodology is simple. When they get here from Mexico, we take them out on a trial run, if they love it and handle themselves with a positive attitude and a relaxed demeanor they continue and if they don’t like it, we don’t push them or try to train them to be something they don’t naturally want to be.
